Hey Kurt,
Sorry for the late reply. I was gonna say… check out the lesson on this. (It’s actually in the accents course) I demonstrate in traditional, although there are so many ways to do this with the traditional left hand, so this is not the only solution. https://beta.thedrummersalmanac.com/module-1/push-pull-technique/
There are a few ways to find it. At slower speeds I tend to use more of my thumb at the fulcrum… this also incorporates more wrist. It’s more physical, but it gives you more control. at faster speeds, I take my thumb out of it altogether. This is a technique I learned from Frank Bellucci. He’s got it great. I would like to do another lesson on the push-pull just for the traditional grip because there are so many ways to approach it. The only challenge is: I can be a huge time investment for something that doesn’t give you a ton of practical use.
Thanks. I found up some youtube lessons by Bellucci and got a pretty good look at the technique. It’s more physical than I thought, although I was heading the right direction with my fingers. I should probably focus on something more practical. But thanks for the info. I hadn’t heard of Frank Bellucci.

I would have like to have seen on of these with traditional grip. I’m not sure I’m getting the hang of it.
never mind

Man, that’s tricky. You’re letting go with the fingers? Is the “pull” actually made with the fingers or with the thumb at the fulcrum?
